Gear and Supplies

Las Vegas Malinois Trainer

We have a ton of fun on adventures with our pack, even when it's just a walk in a new place. We have tested and tried a variety of gear and supplies to help make daily activities and training a bit easier, the Las Vegas summers/winters more comfortable for them and traveling more enjoyable. We frequently get asked about the gear and supplies we have for our pack when we're out in public or through messages on social media and the one common factor we've found is that owners are afraid to make an investment into gear or supplies because they're afraid it won't work as advertised, they don't trust themselves to size properly or they wanted to see the gear in person first.

We'd never promote a product that we either hadn't tried ourselves or witnessed someone we personally know benefiting from it. We are more than happy to explain the benefit and use of each of the products below if you're interested in them. We can also show you in person when we're picking up your pup or at drop off. Just let us know so we can make sure it's available to show.

All of the products below are things we currently use. If you're interested in purchasing a product that requires sizing, such as dog boots or Rex Specs, we can size your pup for you to ensure a proper fit and will even help train your pup to use the gear when they are with us. We'd be happy to pick up any of these items for you and deliver them to you when we see you. Just let us know!

Food and Supplements

prices vary

Las Vegas Dog Food

Some of our pack have sensitive stomachs, others have allergies and a couple have sensitive/brittle teeth. Add all of those things to varying ages ( pup -14 ) and a combination of high-drive breeds and senior dogs to get a world of knowledge when it comes to dog food, supplements, and treats. Being certified in canine nutrition and pet herbal medicine has helped us experiment to find solutions with food rather than prescription medication for many common issues.

While we haven't tried everything out there, we have tried an abundance of things from raw to kibble. Each step of the way solved one problem with our pack but created others. We finally found a combination of food, treats, and supplements that work for our pack while providing great energy, soft coats, settled stomachs, and good sleep.

RAW - we make all of our personal pack's raw food, treats and supplements at home. It is perfectly balanced for optimal health and approved by our vet. If you're interested in feeding your dog raw, we'd be happy to suggest a few companies that you can order online from who are trusted.

Acana Beef and Pumpkin Recipe is what some of our extended family has used to manage GI issues.

Taste of the Wild PREY Trout Recipe Limited Ingredient Recipe is what we fed a rescue we used to have who was prone to yeast infections and GI upset.

Iceland Pure Unscented Pharmaceutical Grade Sardine Anchovy Oil for Dogs

Carni4 easy-chew Fish used as training treats and a raw alternative diet

Pure Bites Freeze-Dried Training Treats

Small Batch Pets Freeze-Dried Training Treats

Zesty Paws Calming Chews are used by quite a few of our clients and family members for their dogs who get anxious with thunder, fireworks, and more.

Each dog is different and this list is just what we've found works for our pack but we'd be happy to share our thoughts on what may benefit your pup. Please let us know how we can help!

CBD

Prices vary depending on strength

There's a wide variety of reasons why people have started using CBD tinctures for their pups. For us, it was for...

• Bella's fear of fireworks

• Kona's joint stiffness (she was our senior girl)

• Berlin's anxiety when she was a pup (she barely slept the first few months we had her)

We tried quite a few chewable supplements, as well as mass-produced CBD tinctures, but there have only ever been two brands that ever worked for our pack. One of the brands isn't always available to purchase but Suzy's CBD Tinctures can be purchased locally at Dog Supplies or online and work amazingly well.

Leashes

$15

Las Vegas Dog Trainer

Slip leads were the very first training tool we ever purchased and were the key to a successful training experience. Whatever stage your pup is in, a slip lead is key. Our pack is fully trained and yet we still find a time or two where slip leads come in handy so we always have one available.

When our pack completed training, we needed a leash we could clip to their training collars so we opted for the clip companion of our trusty slip knot.

We get our leashes from our local Dog Supplies store. We'd be happy to pick up what you need while we're there (we go a couple of times a week) and they have multiple colors available. We can also give you the address to the dog supplies closest to you.

Ultra Paws Cooling Boots

$50 for a set of four

Las Vegas Dog Trainer

Ultra Paws cooling boots are perfect for Vegas pups who like to go for walks, go to local pet stores and hang out with their owners during the summer months. It protects their paws from the hot asphalt and sidewalks and prevents pad burns and nerve damage in their paws.

Our entire pack has a set that we use when we are just about and about during the summer.

We'd be happy to take your pup for a fitting and to pick up their own personal set while they're visiting us. We'll also start the training around our home if you'd like and will take photos/videos to share with you.

You can purchase them on your own by visiting one of the Dog Supplies locations listed below or by visiting the Ultra Paws website.

Ruffwear Grip Trex

$85 for a set of four

Las Vegas Dog Trainer

Ruffwear Grip Trex boots are perfect for the active pup who loves hiking and other outdoor adventures with their owner and they also provide relief from the hot asphalt/sidewalks during the summer months. They provide exceptional traction on varied terrain. Breathable mesh upper provides ventilation and keeps dirt and debris out. Closure system combines hook-and-loop with hardware, cinching around the narrowest part of the dog’s leg to provide a secure fit.

Another great feature is that you can purchase a front set and back set in different sizes, since most pups have bigger paws in the front than in the back, to ensure a good fit during activities.

Our pack each has a set for when we go hiking, running, camping and more! We'd be happy to take your pup for a fitting and to pick up their own personal set while they're visiting us. We'll also start the training around our home if you'd like and will take photos/video to share with you.

You can purchase them on your own by visiting one of the Dog Supply locations listed below or by visiting the Ruff Wear website.

Rex Specs

$95 - includes two lenses, carrying bag, taxes, shipping

Las Vegas Dog Trainer

Rex Specs dog goggles provide durable, dependable eye protection for your partner. All lenses are impact resistant, rated UV400 (blocks 99-100% UVA/UVB), and easy to replace. Ample ventilation allows for maximum airflow and quick draining for use in water. The spherical lens design offers an excellent field of view and the strap system is customizable and creates a secure fit while still allowing for full range of motion. Having your K9 desensitized to eye protection and a pair of Rex Specs in your kit can help you keep your partner safe no matter what situation your team may encounter.

We originally purchased a set for our girls because both Berlin and Thanos have eye sensitivity and we found they had squinty, watery eyes during sunny outdoor activity and we wanted to make them more comfortable since we spend a lot of time outdoors. We quickly found that it also protected their eyes from dirt, dust and debris when running in a pack or with others and from injury when hiking and camping. Now our entire pack has a set!

We'd be happy to size your pup for their own set of Rex Specs and start the training process for you while they're visiting with us. Multiple color and lens options are available.

You can also purchase your own by visiting the Rex Specs website.

Personalized Tactical Collars

$50 - $100 : includes personalized patches, sizing, taxes and shipping

Las vegas Dog Trainer

We can order both flat and e-collar compatible (like our pack has) tactical collars for your pup with personalized patches for medium and large breed pups.

Our pack's collars are the strongest most durable collars we've encountered that function as great as they look. We love that our pack can wear their training collars while still being fashionable and we don't have to worry about them falling apart or malfunctioning (we've had the scary experience of collars falling off before).

Proper sizing is required so we'd be happy to size your pup and order on your behalf but we can also send you the link to the product you'd like to order if that's better for you.

Let us know what kind of collar you're looking for and we can point you in the right direction.

Training Collars

price is entirely dependant on the dog's needs

Las Vegas Dog Trainer

Each dog's training is custom to what the dog needs and responds to best. Training collars, if used, will differ from one dog to the other.

Our entire pack has completed their training with Educator eCollars. Even within the brand, all of our pack have different points/pads, strengths, and needs. We love the brand because they have good quality and reliable products that have multiple functions and purposes, they're waterproof so they can be used during swim time and the company offers excellent customer service.

Despite the myth, these collars DO NOT electrocute dogs. We'd like to get that out of the way now. They do, however, offer vibrating functions to get your dog's attention and a stimulating function for training that tenses the muscle. Our family was convinced of the "electrocution" myth before we were introduced to the collar and taught about them (keep in mind not all eCollars are good ones) and we would never do anything to harm our pack so we put them on ourselves to test them so we knew what they'd experience before ever agreeing to put them on our dogs. Now, we couldn't imagine being without them because they've allowed a stress-free, off-leash lifestyle that we (and our pack) really enjoy.

It's best to let a trainer decide what training tools are best for your dog and for you to be trained on how to properly use the tools. Contact us to schedule a training consultation.

Goughnuts, Chew Proof Toys

$20 - $75, depending on the toy

Screen Shot 2020-07-30 at 2.51.28 PM.png

We have three super chewers in our pack. And by super chewers I mean EVERY toy we’ve ever bought has been destroyed. Not just destroyed, but demolished beyond recognition and not over time, within a few minutes 🤦🏻‍♀️

We’ve tried every “indestructible” dog toy out there it seems. All with high hopes and fingers crossed. Some lasted a little bit 🤏🏼 longer than others ( by little bit I mean maybe an hour or two ) but destroyed same day all the same 😔

We came across @goughnutsinc and we heard they were “indestructible” but we laughed. Then we saw they were an investment at $20-$75 a piece (depending on the toy) and laughed even more. But we had multiple professionals recommend them and they came with a lifetime guarantee so we figured we’d start with one to test it out 🤷🏻‍♀️

We not only have the original goughnut stick we purchased, we have more sticks, 2 rings, 2 tugs and we just added our first goughnuts balls to the mix. All in tact. No pieces missing. All used EVERY DAY 🙌🏻

West Paw Toys

$10-40, depending on the toy

west-paw-design-dog-toys-4.jpg

While West Paw toys don't last long for our super-chewers if they just sit and chew on them, they've been wonderful pool toys for our girls. We play fetch with our girls in the pool and even used West Paw toys to entice them into the pool when they were learning how to swim.

Two of our favorite West Paw toys for the pool are the Hurley Dog Bone and the Boz Dog Ball. They are recyclable, made in the USA, floatable, latex-free, BPA and phthalate-free, FDA compliant, non-toxic and top rack dishwasher safe.

West Paw also sells collars, leashes, treats and dog beds but we can't speak for any of those since we haven't tried them with our girls or personally know of anyone who has.

Elevated Dog Cots

$50 - includes tax, shipping and assembly if you need it

Las Vegas Dog Trainer

Elevated dogs cots are a perfect resting spot for your pup around your house but also function as a training tool. If your pup has been taught a "place" command, he/she can post there when needed.

We've tried many different brands of elevated cots and had issues with quality for one reason or another before discovering Veehoo, the brand we use now. They are easy to put together, light, breathable and washable.

We use elevated dogs cots for all of our pup's exercise spaces at home, in our yard and at the park for posting while training and we even take them camping with us (check out @housewolvesofvegas IG for pics)

We can order the best size for your pup(s), assemble it for you if you need assistance and can show you how to take it apart in case you'd ever need to.

Crates

$40 - $1500, depending on the type and size you need

Las Vegas Dog Trainer

Our pack is crate trained. Their crates are where they take their afternoon naps and where they sleep at night. It's also important for pup owners to have a safe space for their pups in the event that they need to leave home for a short amount of time or if they have workers come into their home for repairs.

Most pups can get by with any brand of crate but working breed pups can be escape artists or even destroy their crates because of anxiety when their owners aren't around. We have a high-anxiety, destructive super chewer in our pack and so we've tested every brand of standard, wire crate before resorting to luxury crate brands.

While we know there are some pups who can't do without a military-grade "escape/chew proof" crate, such as Impact Dog Crates, we've been fortunate to find one standard crate with a locking system that works for most of our pack.

We personally own and use a combination of wire crates, plastic crates and high-anxiety luxury crates so feel free to reach out and ask which one would be best for your pup.

Chew Proof Crate Pad

$100 - $200, depending on the size you need

Las Vegas Dog Trainer

Our pack has chewed through almost every dog bed and crate pad we've bought them, including some expensive "chew-proof" branded items. We want them to be comfortable during naps and overnight but constantly replacing their bedding was an issue.

We came across an ad for Gorilla Ballistic Mats/Beds and decided to give it a shot. To be completely transparent, our Berlin chewed clean through her Gorilla "Chew Proof" crate mat within 48 hours of having it but we realized we may have not attached it appropriately. So, we cashed-in on their warranty for a new cover and gave it another shot. We attached it the right way (we'd be happy to help you) and she's left it alone after that. The issue we found is that while some of our pack enjoyed the crate pad, it was a bit too stiff for a few of our larger pups and they didn't sleep well on it. If your super-chewer is 50 lbs or less, this may be the pad for you. If you have a breed that is prone to joint issues or is larger and requires a little more support, check out our review for the K9 Ballistics Crate Bed farther down this list.

Gorilla Ballistic Chew Proof Crate Pads have extreme chew and scratch resistance and a 125-day chew proof guarantee. They are American made with certified foam by CertiPUR-US, are military-grade & triple stitched, dirt and water-resistant, mildew and mold resistant, hypoallergenic & odor resistant too. They can be used both indoor and outdoor, have a water-resistant liner included and are machine washable. They have dual closures with hidden 268 lb break strength zipper & Velcro, a Gorilla offset opening for easy cover removal and a Velcro Strap Tie Down System.

K9 Ballistics Chew Proof Armored Elevated Padded Dog Crate Bed™

$130 - $200, depending on the size

Screen Shot 2020-07-30 at 3.05.34 PM.png

The single best crate mat/bed purchase we ever made. It's indestructible (our 100 lb rescue Malinois with anxiety has tried). Make sure you purchase the Armored Elevated Padded Dog Crate Bed and not the standard one. This particular crate bed is elevated and padded, making it extremely comfortable for them. All of our pack now has one.

If you enter your email address and submit your dog's birthday they'll send you a promo code for 10% off your purchase. You're welcome!

Wisdom Panel, DNA

$100 - $160, depending on the panel you request

wisdom panel.jpg

We've come across quite a few people interested in learning more about their pup. People who know us well are familiar with our Senior pup Kona's story and how we were told she was a breed that she very clearly isn't.

It took until she was 12 years old for us to discover Wisdom Panel and we loved the experience. Not only did it break down the breeds she is mixed with, but also broke down her parent's DNA for us as well.

It helped us to appreciate her in a whole new way and we've encouraged other pup owners to do their own test. The kit ranges in price, depending on which panel you'd like to have done, but we're happy to help you either way. We can test your pup for you and let you know once the results come in. Or if you'd rather do it on your own, you can visit the Wisdom Panel website to order your kit!

Indestructibone

$20 - $40, depending on the bone

WebsiteMINI2020_1024x.png

Two Pitbulls, differing opinions...

The bones are definitely indestructible, that isn't a factor between these two pups. The problem is, one pittie loved to chew on it while the other didn't even acknowledge it existed.

So I guess our opinion is to each is own and it'll be best to try it for your own pup to see if they like it or not.
